Abstract
In this IDC study, we discuss how digital camera shipments will continue to
increase as the market grows and matures. Average sales value (ASV) will drop
and higher resolution cameras will become increasingly visible in the years to
come. Vendors need to adopt a consumer-centric approach toward this market as
consumers look for cameras with additional and advanced features. They are
increasingly demanding more for less. The ergonomics of the camera is also
important as most consumers prefer sleeker and lighter frames. Consumer' s
desire for more features for less is also shifting the trend toward camera
accessory and freebie bundling.
According to Aarti Gahlaut, assistant manager, Peripherals Research, IDC India,
"The megapixel war in the market will come to a halt eventually as vendors
will start to focus on other technology features. Moving ahead, optical zoom
and screen size will see a changing trend, as also features like anti-shake and
face detection gain importance. Prices will reduce further and will determine
the penetration of digital cameras in smaller towns and cities. DSLR cameras
will show better movement in metros.
