Abstract
This IDC study forecasts the total size of the worldwide PC microprocessor
market for the 2007-2012 period. In addition to the forecast on overall
processor unit shipments, revenues, and average selling prices, the study also
forecasts the segments for processors designed for desktop PCs, mobile PCs, and
x86 servers. With each form factor, the study breaks down the number of unit
shipments by the number of cores inside each processor (from single core to 16
core). This document also presents a qualitative analysis of the desktop PC,
mobile PC, and x86 server processors market trends.
"The PC processor market remains the biggest single segment of the PC
semiconductor market. While it will have increasing pull on the rest of the
chips inside the typical PC, economic, market, and other forces outside of it
will also have increasing pull over the forecast period." - Shane Rau, program
director, Computing, Networking, and Storage Semiconductors
