Abstract
This IDC study updates the previously published Asia/Pacific Branded Tape Drive
Market, 2007-2011: Semiannual Update (IDC #AP267101P, January 2008). It
relates to the single tape drive market and provides the following market data:
- A summary of the market in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ in 2007 compared with 2006
- Revenue and unit shipments broken down by country, class segment/technology, and vendor
- Forecasts of the market from 2008 to 2012 for the region, as well as separate forecasts for each of the 13 countries covered
"2007 spelled further decline for the single tape drive market as competitively
priced tape automation systems continued to cannibalize dollar spend on this
segment of the tape market. 2007 also saw many legacy tape technologies
reaching "end of life" (EOL) and hence "flooded" onto the market further adding
to competitive price pressures. The value and volume of unit shipment of the
APEJ market for single tape drives registered a 19.4% and 20.3% year-over-year
(YoY) decline, respectively," says Cheryl Ganesan-Lim, market analyst, Storage
Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
