Abstract
This IDC study includes a vendor market share analysis on a worldwide basis for
the mobile phone semiconductor industry for 2007. This market grew 9.0% to
$23.4 billion last year as the industry continued to migrate from 2.5G to
3G/3.5G technologies. Chipset-specific revenue for 2.5G dropped 3.5% to $10.6
billion, while 3G/3.5G chipset revenue grew by 44% to $7.2 billion. The
industry saw continued growth in cellular chipsets, applications processors and
media coprocessors, and a variety of connectivity chipsets.
"The continued migration from 2.5G technologies to 3G/3.5G technologies is
progressing well and enabled a 9% growth in overall mobile phone semiconductor
revenue in 2007. We expect this steady migration and growth to continue and be
boosted by increased semiconductor revenue from multimedia processing and
connectivity growth." - Flint Pulskamp, IDC analyst, Wireless Semiconductors
Research.
