Abstract
This IDC study provides the latest research on broadband Internet access
adoption rates and trends in Central and Eastern Europe. The broadband Internet
access technologies covered in this study include DSL, cable, FWA, metro
Ethernet and others. The countries included are Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech
Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and
Slovenia. The following questions are addressed:
- What are the key growth areas for broadband Internet access services?
- Which countries are leading the market in terms of broadband penetration?
- How is the market divided between the consumer and business segments?
- What is the current status of broadband adoption in the region, and how is broadband expected to grow in the future?
"Competition in the broadband market is picking up. New networks in the region
are being built using WiMAX and FTTx. Still, the leading technology remains
DSL. In the face of growing competition, providers are investing in value-added
services, such as IPTV, as a tool for customer retention and acquisition." -
Joshua Budd, Program Manager, IDC CEMA.
