Abstract
This IDC study discusses that the overall state of Malaysia telecommunications
services revenue in 2007 is showing a fairly healthy growth. On the back of
government spending in branch offices network nationwide, telecommunications
service provider (SP) increased capex in 2007 and strong enterprise
infrastructure spending, IDC sees a significant increase in total IP
infrastructure upgrades and expansion. The healthy spending in infrastructure
upgrades and expansion indicates the nationwide initiative to embrace a more
robust network that can cater for stronger bandwidth consumption.
"Malaysia is gradually changing in the nation data services traffic pattern;
international traffic is seen to be increasing steadily and is likely to
surpass the local traffic in time to come. The international traffic is
expected to continuously experience an upward trend, generally driven by the
increase of businesses globalization and future development of new fiber-optic
technology that enables significant increase of capacity at a lower cost per
bit," says Esther Gan, associate analyst, Telecommunications, IDC Malaysia.
