This IDC study is the result of IDC' s ongoing compilation of market data
related to the Fibre Channel (FC) switch market in each of the 13 countries in
the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region. This study follows the
Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Fibre Channel Switch 2007-2011 Forecast and
Analysis: Semiannual Update (IDC #AP261114P), published in March 2008. This
study provides the following:
- A summary of the market in APEJ in 2007 compared with the data in 2006
- Factory and market revenues and port shipments broken down by country, switch segment, and vendor
- Forecasts for the APEJ market from 2008 to 2012
- Market strategies
- A discussion of how future trends such as 10Gbps connectivity and competing technologies such as the Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCOE) will affect the competitive position of FC switch vendors
"Macroeconomic developments in the Asia/Pacific region were broadly positive in
2007 despite some volatility toward the tail end of the year brought about by
the U.S. subprime mortgage crisis. Overall, good year-on-year growth in the
APEJ FC switch market was observed in 2007. Growth in the FC switch market was
mostly the result of an increased number of organizations in the region
implementing a SAN-based storage architecture. In 2007, significant shipments
and terabytes of FC SAN-based disks storage systems were observed. Many of
these purchases were results of new three-year buying cycles in some
