Abstract
This IDC study provides an analysis and forecast of the Asia/Pacific (excluding
Japan) or APEJ portable audio (MP3) player market. This document covers the six
key markets tracked by IDC Asia/Pacific' s Consumer Markets research: Australia,
India, Korea, the People' s Republic of China (PRC), Singapore, Taiwan, as well
as rest of Asia/Pacific (ROAP).
The study has two central sections. The Situation Overview section reviews
current market trends at the regional level as well as by country. The Future
Outlook section outlines IDC' s assumptions about market trends during the
forecast period and presents forecast data and analysis for the period from
2006 to 2012.
"The portable MP3 player market in APEJ grew 8.4% in 2007," says Claudio
Checchia, research manager, Consumer Markets, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Flash-based
players continue to be the form factor of choice among consumers, accounting
for just over 93% of total unit shipments in APEJ in 2007. At the same time,
decline of portable jukeboxes started to accelerate during 2007 as shipments
fell by 17.0%. The PRC and Korea were the two largest markets for MP3 players
in APEJ with 50.5% share and 12.2% share in unit shipments in 2007,
respectively."
