Abstract
This IDC study examines the database development and management tools market,
presenting vendor shares for 2007, with regional and operating environment
breakdowns. It also offers vendor share breakdowns according to two key
platform segments; mainframe and minicomputers, and distributed and mobile
computers.
"The market for database development and management tools showed modest but
sustainable growth in 2007, reflecting the generally strong position of
database management systems," says Carl Olofson, research vice president of
Information Management and Data Integration Software at IDC. "This market
largely tracks to the DBMS markets, but as DBMS vendors continue to improve the
manageability of their products, DDMT vendors will be challenged to continue to
move upmarket with more advanced capabilities in the areas of management,
development, and optimization of databases; database operations; and the data
itself."
