Abstract
This vendor profile is part of a series of profiles and market analysis studies
undertaken by the Asia/Pacific IT services team to analyze and critique the
business analytics services market in the APEJ region.
The selection criteria are based on having representation from each type of
player in the BA space, for example, platform owner, technology acquirer,
systems integrator (SI) and SP. The information provided in this study is based
on a range of primary and secondary research, including interview with SPs
profiled in the series study and also leverage on IDC' s assets across IT
services and software trackers for the APEJ market. In addition, this study
reflects IDC' s ongoing interactions with key market players and end-user
surveys focused on end-customers' buying patterns. For these players, the study
aims to cover the following areas in each profile:
- Brief company overview
- Product and service offerings
- Focus areas and strategies
- Customer and partnering highlights
- Strengths and challenges in the marketplace
In this IDC vendor profile, we cover IBM-Cognos with a focus on its BA services
business in APEJ, by identifying and analyzing the SPs strengths, areas for
improvement, and competitive differentiators. Simultaneously, this study aims
to analyze the key next steps for IBM, as well as competitive moves that its
immediate competitors should initiate.
IDC believes that the BA market in the APEJ region is expected to experience a
higher level of traction and interest from businesses. The recent spate of
acquisitions (IBM-Cognos, SAP-Business Objects, Oracle-Hyperion) has resulted
in the creation of BA mega-vendors that have a wide span of BA products and
services. IBM' s consulting and SI capabilities, as well as complementary
product and technology capabilities across hardware and applications, make the
SP a formidable player in the BA space.
