Abstract
This IDC study looks at complex event processing middleware, identifies and
compares product capabilities of the major competitors, examines how
enterprises are using this software inside their organizations to build their
event-driven applications, and looks at key trends. Data about CEP purchasing
from 2007 through first half 2008 is included.
"Most applications depend on users to ask an application to perform a task. It
is clear that this approach is no longer adequate for many types of
applications that involve managing risk and for customer service. The new
paradigm requires an event-driven approach that tells users when they need to
take action," according to Maureen Fleming, program director, BPM and
Middleware. "In this scenario, CEP software becomes the application server for
the event-driven system."
