Abstract
This study analyzes the human capital management (HCM) and payroll applications
market in Western Europe and ranks vendors in a variety of segments: Western
Europe overall, HCM and payroll, by European country/region, by functional
segment (payroll, core HR, workforce management, erecruiting, incentive
management, HR performance management) and by deployment model (SaaS versus
on-premises). Additionally, it examines future competitive dynamics and offers
guidance to vendors selling into this market.
The Western European HCM and payroll market had another great year in 2007 with
overall growth of 8.7% after growth 9.5% in 2006. 2007 market size equaled ?1.7
billion. The HCM applications market performed particularly strongly in 2007
and the first half of 2008. Of the top HCM and payroll vendors, SAP, Personal &
Informatik, Unit4 Agresso, StepStone, and Cegid all outgrew the market average.
StepStone grew fastest of all at 26%.
"IDC expects that the uncertain and depressed economic climate today will
change the competitive dynamics. Current leaders, both the ERP and
best-of-breed vendors will gain share, while weaker niche suppliers will exit
the market or be acquired. Customers are looking to solve overarching talent
management and HR problems and automate and centralize processes and will pick
vendors with a broader perspective on HCM. However, in some areas, such as
workforce management and optimization, that are characterized by complex and
industry-specific requirements, niche vendors remain dominant," said Bo
Lykkegaard, program director, European Enterprise Applications and Services.
