Abstract
This IDC study discusses the results of a survey IDC conducted at the HR
Technology Conference and Exposition held October 15-17, 2008, in Chicago. The
event drew a large crowd of HR attendees numbering in the thousands. Survey
topics ranged from top challenges facing HR to the status of the 2009 budget. A
copy of the survey was made available to attendees in the registration
materials and participation was voluntary. Highlights from the survey include
the following:
- Leadership development and succession are the top of mind challenges and initiatives in play. In tough times, companies need to build their own talent from within, and with hiring potentially curtailed, it is important for them to build upon the talent they have.
- Even though the market for some talent function is relatively new, there are signs of vendor churn for compensation, performance, and succession. Coupled with responses on preferred talent platform implementation that favor the suite approach, buyers may be looking to consolidate on an integrated platform.
- Budget projections, although not rosy, are perhaps a bit more optimistic than how reality will play out in 2009.
"Progress is being made toward HR transformation and toward integrating talent
management," said Lisa Rowan, IDC program director, HR and Talent Management
Services. "With difficult economic times in front of us, it will be important
for buyers and providers to build good business cases for the progress to
continue."
