Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8330106,)
analyzes and forecasts the identity and access management (IAM) and security
and vulnerability management (SVM) product markets. Between 2005 and 2007, both
markets continued to grow, albeit at decreasing rates. We forecast the IAM
product market will continue to expand in 2008 and beyond, albeit at a slow
pace. Meanwhile, the SVM product market will grow rapidly until 2009. From
2010, the growth rate will decrease but the market will continue to expand.
"Interest in IT controls has increased with the implementation of the J-SOX and
other industry regulations. IAM and SVM software are infrastructure
technologies for implementing IT general controls as part of internal control
solutions. The implementation of IAM solutions, in particular, involves a lot
of preparatory work and high costs. Meanwhile, users have become more demanding
about the returns on security software. It is necessary for IT vendors to
strengthen their implementation support systems, and establish cost models that
can demonstrate ROI in the form of reduced risks and increased business
effectiveness and efficiency," Tsuneo Tosaka, research manager, Security, IDC
Japan.
