Abstract
This IDC study provides a detailed overview of IT spending trends and forecasts
for 17 vertical markets (or industry sectors) and 10 product categories in
Russia, including hardware, packaged software, and services. The study features
overviews of key industry developments, industry challenges, and
vertical-specific IT drivers and trends, including tables detailing IT spending
by vertical market for each product for the 2008-2012 period. Analysis is based
on continuous research, the monitoring of users' IT spending and emerging
purchasing patterns, and supply and demand-side research.
"In recent years, the Russian IT market has been buoyed by the government' s oil
dollars and a period of rapid investment, much of which was funded with foreign
credit. During the fourth quarter of 2008, the combined impact of the global
credit crunch and large declines in the prices for Russia' s main raw materials
exports prompted one of the sharpest periods of economic decline to occur in
post-Soviet Russia and a commensurate decline in IT investment. IDC believes
that 2009 will be a very tough year for IT vendors in Russia, with the focus
being on consolidation, optimization, and business value." - Research Manager
