Abstract
This IDC study examines the evolving storage requirements and opportunities in
the telecommunications industry. It provides a five-year forecast for storage
spend by storage environments, geography, telecommunications sectors, and
datacenter type. It also discusses how emerging sectors such as Web 2.0, IPTV,
and cloud will affect storage demand in the telecommunications sector. Key
questions answered include:
- What is the telecom storage revenue opportunity through 2012?
- Which segments will grow the fastest, and which segments will continue to struggle?
- Which geographic regions will grow the fastest?
"Despite difficult economic conditions, service providers will remain major
consumers of storage solutions over the next five years," says Rick Villars,
vice president, Storage Systems and Executive Strategies. "The continued
expansions in specific geographies (Asia/Pacific) and into specific market
sectors (wireless data services, content, and hosting/cloud services) will
ensure that spending on disk storage systems and storage software in the
telecommunications sector continues to increase at combined compound annual
growth rate (CAGR) of 6.8% from 2007 to 2012."
