Abstract
This IDC study provides an analysis of the worldwide semiconductor market for
portable media players from 2009 to 2013. The semiconductor market for portable
media player is expected to decline at a -9% CAGR, from $7.5 billion in 2008 to
$4.6 billion in 2013. The market for portable media players is saturated, and
the lower consumer demand is stalling new and repeat purchases for PMPs.
"Mature market, economic slowdown, growing similarity with a mobile phone and
mobile Internet device, and inevitable cannibalization will reduce the total
market opportunity for semiconductors in portable media players," explains Ajit
Deosthali, IDC research manager, Short Range Wireless Semiconductors.
