Abstract
This IDC study analyses the effects of the global financial
crisis and local recession and outlines the current situation and
some of the key drivers likely to shape the future
of the New Zealand peripherals market. The economic climate has
effectively put hardware in a pressure cooker where, contrary to
some advice about "battening the hatches" and putting everything on
hold, the opposite will actually take place where the rate
of change in the industry has been and will be
accelerated.
"To say that hardware sales are being challenged is to
put it mildly. The value of New Zealand hardware shipments
has been dropping like a barometer ahead of an impending
cyclone," says Ariki Pearson, peripherals analyst, IDC New Zealand.
