Abstract
This IDC study examines U.S. wireless subscribers and revenue, specifically
for the U.S. wireless prepaid subscription market. The U.S. wireless
market has entered its mature phase. Market penetration has reached
saturation levels, and subscriber growth is slowing. IDC is looking
at the increase in prepaid usage among wireless subscribers.
"Wireless subscribers
are becoming more aware of their options and looking at
a prepaid cell phone as a way to save money
on their monthly bill," says Richard Murphy, research analyst, Wireless
and Mobile Communications. "The consumer is becoming savvier. Prepaid services
allow consumers to pay for exactly what they need and
no longer pay for services they are not using."
