Abstract
2008 has been a great leveler. On the one hand,
the first half of the year saw some of the
best performances by both enterprise servers as well as external
disk storage in India. On the other hand, with the
global financial crisis and the resulting economic slowdown becoming more
prominent, the second half of the year saw a decline
in growth trends.
The overall server revenue grew by just over
3.3% in 2008 after recording a year-over-year (YoY) growth rate
of 14.4% in 2006 and 24.6% in 2007. Even in
terms of shipment, the overall enterprise server market in the
country recorded a growth rate of only 5.6% after growing
17.5% in 2006 and 19.3% in 2007.
"The external disk storage
market continued to record a YoY growth rate of 19.1%
in 2008 over the 20.7% growth rate it recorded in
2007 in terms of revenue. In terms of capacity, the
overall external disk storage market recorded a YoY growth rate
of 57%," says Amit Dalal, analyst, IDC India.
