Abstract
This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese
report IDC #J8450109, forecasts that the Japan datacenter service market
will maintain solid growth until 2012. Besides the increase in
new demand that arises when companies switch from in-house server
operation to the use of collocation and hosting services, companies
already using collocation and hosting services will expand the use
of datacenter services by increasing the number of servers and
Web/email accounts.
"Many servers for companies' mission-critical systems are still managed
at their own server rooms and the Japan datacenter service
market has a large opportunity for growth. However, the price
war on standardized services is intensifying and the possibility of
an increase in datacenter operation cost is rising due to
the increase of electricity tariffs and the obligation to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions. It is becoming more important than ever
for datacenter providers to improve the operation efficiency of not
only hosting, in which datacenter providers manage servers, but also
collocation, which has so far been regarded as a simple
rental service, in order to improve the providers' profitability," analyzes
Mimei Ito, research manager, IT Services, IDC Japan.
