Abstract
Mobile phone application ICs constitute a huge and highly attractive market.
In the past, this market was dominated by a handful of leading international
vendors, but recently new entrants have begun to enter the market. Several
leading Taiwanese IC design houses -including MediaTek, VIA, and Sunplus -have
been working actively to develop the mobile phone core IC market. They have
also adopted a low-price strategy for some products, thereby threatening the
dominance of the leading international IC vendors. This report analyses the
current state of leading Taiwanese mobile phone IC design houses, and seeks to
identify the key trends in the industry' s development.
