Abstract
Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) is the integration of mechanical
elements, sensors, actuators, and electronics on a common silicon substrate
through microfabrication technology. MEMS technology allows the development of
smart products, augmenting the computational ability of microelectronics with
the perception and control capabilities of microsensors and microactuators. In
MEMS, the electronics are fabricated using integrated circuit (IC) process
sequences. The micromechanical components of MEMS, on the other hand, are
fabricated using compatible "micromachining" processes that selectively etch
away parts of the silicon wafer or add new structural layers to form the
mechanical and electromechanical devices.
The report forecasts the size of MEMS market in mobile phones over the period
2008-2012. It segments the market by applications of MEMS technology in mobile
phones. Further, it discusses the key market drivers and challenges of the
MEMS market in mobile phones. The report also profiles some of the key MEMS
vendors operating in the mobile phone applications market.
