Abstract
A study of the use of lasers as an illumination source for projection systems
used for visualization and simulation.

The Need:
Due to the special requirements of the visualization and simulation
industries, this is the one market segment where there has been a significant
penetration of laser-based projectors in spite of the high price of the
lasers. An evaluation of this market is needed to understand why lasers have
been able to penetrate and to forecast the future of laser-based projectors in
the visualization and simulation markets.
Report Objective:
The objective of this report is to apply the price, performance and system
level knowledge about RGB lasers developed in the Laser Projection Report to
the special needs of the Vis/Sim market segment. The analysis synthesizes key
component and system-level price and performance information with a business
and competitive market evaluation, to develop an understanding of the special
value propositions offered by laser-based projection systems relative to
encumbant or other expected solutions. The analysis is used to create a total
Vis/Sim forecast along with the penetration of laser-based systems into the
total available market from 2007-2011.
Highlights:
- Descriptions of the key sub-markets within the visualization and
simulation industries
- BOM cost estimates for both laser and lamp-based projectors to serve these
industries
- Forecasts of the total revenues for these industries and key sub-markets
in the industries
- Forecasts for projector sales revenues to the visualization and simulation
industries
- Forecasts of the breakdown by projector technology (Laser, HID lamp and
CRT) in these industries
- Identification of the key players in these markets
