Abstract
This IDATE report examines the challenges that arise from the transition from
PSTN to Next Generation Access Networks.
The study illustrates different types of fibre-based network architectures and
their specific implications on the competitive landscape. The issues
identified are further presented in a European regulatory context.
Key questions
- What will be the competition dynamics further to NGA migration on a medium
term time horizon?
- Why an unbalanced regulatory approach might be disastrous for either
network investment or infrastructure competition?
- Why the Netherlands will maintain their rank as European broadband leader?
- What are the situations of the other European countries for a rapid
development of NGA infrastructure competition?
- What could be a European approach to defining a regulatory framework for
NGA?
