Abstract
Description
Trends in the notebook PC space have seen the emergence of a number of
different device categories, most notably the rise of ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs)
and netbooks. Different features in each of these device segments results in
varying wireless technology profiles. This report examines the current and
future market for all notebook PCs, also split by netbooks, UMPCs and
‘other' notebooks, and the wireless technologies included in these
devices. This includes both current technologies, such as WLAN, WUSB and
Classic Bluetooth, as well as upcoming technologies, such as Bluetooth high
speed, Bluetooth low energy, NFC and 60 GHz Technologies.
The study will provide the following:
- Total notebook PC market size estimates for 2008 with growth forecasts to
2014, broken down by netbooks, UMPCs and other notebook PCs
- Breakdown of wireless connectivity attach rates and shipments, for each of
the three device segments, for 2008-2014.
- Wireless technologies included in this report are: Bluetooth (Classic and
high speed), WLAN (both 802.11 and other versions), 3G/4G technologies, 60
GHz, WUSB and NFC.
- Breakdown of major wireless technologies by interface type (mini PCIe,
half-mini PCIe, etc.) for 2008-2014.
- Forecasts for wireless technology implementation type (standalone IC,
combination IC and motherboard integration) for each device type, for
2008-2014.
- Major wireless technology IC shipments, ASPs and revenues for each device
type (2008-2014).
