Abstract
Description
Demand for automotive electronics in China has grown very quickly in the last
few years. This growth has been primarily driven by a boom in the Chinese
light vehicle market, as a result of a rapid increase in household income.
The average value of factory-fitted electronic systems per vehicle has been
rising. Chinese consumers are increasingly looking for safety, comfort, and
convenience features when they buy vehicles. Some electronics systems, such as
ABS, are now regarded as "must have" features to attract buyers.
Suppliers to the Chinese OEM automotive electronics market are overwhelmingly
multinationals. This is largely a result of the fact that the Chinese light
vehicle market is dominated by multinational vehicle manufacturers. However,
the market share for domestic automotive electronic suppliers has been
growing. With high cost pressures, vehicle manufacturers are likely to
increase use of high quality but low cost systems from local suppliers.
Besides, increased production by Chinese vehicle manufacturers is also likely
to boost demand for electronics systems from Chinese suppliers.
This research should prove highly valuable for automotive electronic system
makers who want to have an in-depth understanding of Chinese OEM automotive
electronics market; semiconductor and component suppliers to the Chinese
automotive electronic system industry; banks, consultancies and venture
capitalists that want to gain a detailed understanding of the OEM automotive
electronics market in China.
