Abstract
Diagnostic tests or clinical laboratory tests have a very important role in
the diagnosis of any disease and in the healthcare system. These tests are the
basis of most of the medical decisions. The laboratory tests are mainly of
three types, clinical or routine tests, anatomic pathology tests and esoteric
tests. Diagnostics tests have a little wider coverage than the clinical
laboratory tests.
Payors play an important role in this industry as they are the ones who
reimburse the cost of the tests to the laboratories. There are both government
and private payors and include healthcare insurers also. Each of these payors
operates differently and also have different share in the reimbursements
depending upon the countries. The laboratory testing industry is also
supported by the In Vitro Diagnostic industry which supplies all the
instruments used in the laboratory tests.
International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) is the international
body for accrediting these laboratories. Each country or region has an
independent accrediting body which is ultimately a member of or affiliated to
the ILAC, to provide accreditation to the laboratories.
With the increasing awareness about early detection and prevention of diseases
and the aging of the world population, the industry is poised for rapid
growth. There are various players in this industry. Most players are limited
to a country or a region but a few operate more widely. For example, Quest
Diagnostic and LabCorp in USA, LAbco Diagnostics in Europe, Sonic Healthcare
(SHL), Symbion Health, and Healthscope (HSP) in Austraila.
This report analyzes the global clinical laboratory market and various aspects
of the market like reimbursement market and In Vitro Diagnostic market. It has
also covers various countries and the respective markets, their issues and
growth drivers. The report also profiles the leading players of this industry.
