Abstract
This Manufacturing Insights report looks at the promise of radio frequency
identification (RFID) to deliver a range of benefits through increased
efficiency, better visibility, and availability of real-time information along
the supply chain. Over the past few years, organizations around the globe have
implemented RFID solutions with varied degree of successes. This study looks at
one of the early instances of an RFID implementation in Asia/Pacific supply
chain management (SCM) in the global electronics industry, and explores the
challenges and opportunities faced, as well as key business and IT strategies
adopted in order to address them.
"While most of the analysis are currently focused on the supply chains, in
particular on the chain masters, this study profiles a relatively smaller
organization that had taken a bold step to differentiate itself within the
competition, even though, the technology still evolves," says Debashis
Tarafdar, senior research manager, Manufacturing Insights, IDC Asia/Pacific.
