Abstract
In this IT spending forecast report, Manufacturing Insights provides an
overview of the developments of IT investments in Western European process
manufacturing.
- Beginning with an overview of trends and business environment affecting the major manufacturing subindustries, the report explores the changes in major drivers and directions in IT adoption in the discrete manufacturing industry in Western Europe.
- On the quantitative side, the focus is on spending in hardware, packaged software, and IT services for the major European countries (Germany, France, the U.K., Italy, Spain, and other Western Europe) in the 2007-2011 timeframe.
- The following process manufacturing industries are covered: chemicals; food, beverage, and tobacco; metals; non-metallic; other process; pharmaceuticals; pulp and paper; rubber and plastics; textiles; and wood and wood products.
"As we enter 2008, several factors threaten business expectations. Oil prices
are near the $100 per barrel level and the euro continues to fluctuate at its
highest levels," said Pierfrancesco Manenti, EMEA research director at
Manufacturing Insights, an IDC company. "However, Manufacturing Insights
believes that the pressing issues and opportunities coming from the global
competitive scene should translate into higher investment in information
technology. In fact, IT is today considered by manufacturing organizations as
an enabler of business excellence and competitive advantage."
