Abstract
Multi-play strategies are becoming more widespread and many operators have
implemented some degree of network convergence, allowing the delivery of a
wide range of services over fixed or mobile networks. Recently handsets have
become capable of handling multiple media and are serving as converged devices
giving users access to different types of service. Technology allows the
potential for increased convergence of many services and applications, but not
all will prove of interest to users or of benefit to operators. A clear
understanding of the possible developments and their potential applications,
together with their likely impact on users is required to ensure that
investment is reserved for the most profitable applications and services.
This report provides an overview of the current state of multi-play convergent
services, the technologies that will permit further development and the
factors that will determine success.
