Abstract
Through 2013, the North American body contouring device market will be driven
by a high level of aesthetic consciousness in the region. An increasing number
of overweight individuals, particularly in the US, will also create a large
pool of ideal candidates for various body contouring procedures. As a result
of patient demand for such procedures, physicians will continue to adopt these
devices. Both new and existing competitors are introducing technological
innovations, such as dual wavelength laser-assisted liposuction systems, that
enhance procedural outcomes. The global economic recession will restrict
market growth to some extent, however. Given the elective nature of most body
contouring procedures, many consumers will postpone or forego treatment due to
reduced disposable incomes. Consequently, many physicians are earning less
revenue, making it difficult for them to purchase new capital equipment. The
downturn led to sales decline from 2008 to 2009 but the market will begin to
rebound, which Millennium Research Group assumes will occur in early 2010.
