Abstract
Mobile payment solutions perhaps rank with location services as the two
revenue opportunities that have been permanently ' around the corner' for
mobile operators. Recently the rapid proliferation of NTT DoCoMo' s FeliCa
payment technology in Japan has raised hopes that, finally, mobile payment' s
time has come. This summary of selected Asia-Pacific markets finds
considerable interest in micropayment solutions, but a lack of consensus on
business models that is likely to limit uptake.
