Abstract
SBI estimates the U.S. market for personal protective equipment (PPE) reached
$6.4 billion in 2007 rising seven percent over 2006. However, there is danger
of slower growth in coming years. PPE manufacturers may see slower sales
growth or downright slower sales if there is a worldwide economic slowdown
either in sympathy with or as a direct result of the slowdown in the U.S.
economy. Still, factors closer to home may help offset this potential
slowdown. OSHA' s recent employer PPE purchase mandate, needs of an aging
workforce and convergent product innovation ranging from comfort to
communication may stoke sales through any economic difficulties.
These products are designed to protect users from occupational hazards,
injuries and illnesses. Categories covered include:
- Body Protection and Protective Clothing
- Hand and Foot Protection
- Head and Face Protection
- Respiratory Protection
The report provides data on shipments, imports and exports for the personal
protective equipment market and the four categories within the market. In most
cases, historical data are provided for a 10-year period (1998-2007). It also
identifies key economic and market trends affecting the industry and profiles
key manufacturers, highlighting their strengths, performance, product
portfolios and significant recent events. Also included are marketing,
distribution and retail overview, outlining aspects of getting the products to
market, and an end-user segment analysis.
