  • Expanded listings have been added for several major countries, including Germany, Russia, Canada
  • The total generating capacity in megawatts of the plants listed in the database amounts to 96% of the world' s capacity
  • This database currently lists 18,602 generating plants worldwide in 184 countries and a higher number of generating units
  • The database is growing continuously, both with quantitative additions and qualitatively with more information about individual plants.
  • The plants are classified by fuel (individual fuels or combinations of fuels), fuel group (thermal, hydro, nuclear, RE, hybrid - 100%), capacity MW (100%), units and technology (70%), year of commissioning (76%), ownership type (utility, IPP, CPP - 100%) and owner (71%)

Key Findings

  • The plants are classified by fuel (over 100 individual fuels or combinations of fuels) and fuel group (Thermal, hydro, nuclear, RE, hybrid - 100%), with the following numbers a plants listed
  • The database is comprehensive over the capacity range and is not restricted to large plants
  • 662 plants with installed capacity of 1,000 MW and over are listed, 742 plants from 500to 1,000 MW, 6,883 plants from 1MW to 50 MW, and 3,610 plants with capacity below 1 MW
  • All sections of the industry are covered, utilities, independent power producers (IPPs) and captive power plants (CPPs).
  • 7,114 of the companies are utility-owned
