Abstract
This newly updated report from Access Asia covers the market for edible oils
in China including margarine, olive oil, vegetable and seed Oil as well as
butter. The total market value for edible oils, including margarine, olive
oil, vegetable oil and butter, in current value terms, reached RMB118.69bn
(US$14.34bn) by 2004, the total market value having risen by 41.32% since
1998, at an average annual growth rate of 6.57%. However, the industry is not
all a rosy picture - over capacity in the processing industry means there is a
greater reliance on imports creating difficulties for farmers. But, greater
future imports of oil-bearing crops, crude oils and processed oils will mean
significant new opportunities for foreign companies to enter the market.
