Abstract
AMA Research has published the 1st edition of the ' Energy Efficient
Lighting - UK 2007' report. AMA Research have been researching and
publishing reports on the UK lighting and electrical products market for over
15 years, but this new report represents our first specific focus in energy
efficient lighting. Energy Efficient Lighting is a fast moving product sector
and, in contrast to the wider Lighting Products Sector which has reached a
mature stage in terms of market growth, presents both opportunities and
challenges for manufacturers, distributors and retailers alike.
The UK Energy Efficient Lighting market is estimated to be worth around
£200m in 2007, (though market definition is difficult and represents a
guideline estimate only), with significant growth in recent years.
Legislation and other initiatives are the chief drivers of this market, and a
significant recent development has been the voluntary commitment to phase out
production and sales of the most inefficient light bulbs by 2011.
Growth rates for this market are difficult to forecast as, to an extent, they
depend on the changing of current consumer attitudes to energy saving lighting
products. However, if this is achieved, growth should be very strong in the
next 3-4 years and will continue to accelerate at least until 2011, the target
date for the voluntary phasing out of sales of the most energy inefficient
incandescent lamps.
