Abstract
After a brief introduction explaining the American standard system, this
report provides a synopsis of 140 furniture related standards and labeling
requirements in the USA. Most standards are voluntary, but some of them are
regulated by state or federal laws. Standards are becoming increasingly
important to protect manufactures and retailers against costly liability
suits. The list of standards covered in the catalogue included: Upholstered
furniture, Juvenile furniture and Baby Cribs, Mattresses, Office and
Institutional furniture, Kitchen cabinets, Flammability standards, Furniture
hardware, Paints, Coatings, Lacquers, and much more. In an appendix, we
provide addresses of all major standard setting institutions, testing
laboratories, and certification bodies. A comprehensive index makes the
catalogue an easy-to-use reference tool.
This report does not contain the complete text of the standards covered.
However, it provides links to the standard setting institutions where the full
text can be purchased.
