Abstract

Digital Visual Interface (DVI) and its sister technology, High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), are high-bandwidth digital interface specifications. DVI is aimed primarily at PCs and PC peripherals such as monitors and projectors, while HDMI is aimed at the Consumer Electronics (CE) market. DVI is beginning to have a difficult time in the market, with HDMI overtaking it in the CE world, and decreasing design wins in the PC world. In addition, there are upcoming competitive digital interfaces targeting the PC market, including DisplayPort and Unified Display Interface (UDI).

In the CE market, HDMI has seen its initial success in digital televisions expand into other devices, including set-top boxes, as well as DVD players and recorders. DisplayPort and UDI represent less of a threat to HDMI than DVI.

This report contains analysis and five-year forecasts for the penetration of DVI and HDMI into 18 different applications in PCs, PC peripherals, and CE. Five-year average selling price forecasts for discrete DVI, DVI-HDCP, and HDMI transmitters and receivers are provided. Past history of penetration forecasts back to 2002 is also included, in addition to brief profiles of major DVI and HDMI silicon suppliers.
