Abstract
Although legacy data service revenues (i.e. frame relay, private line, and
ATM) are in decline, these services remain a vital part of firms' networking
fabric and carrier revenues. From the perspective of many firms, these legacy
services continue to offer adequate networking capabilities to meet their
requirements. Just to be clear, the revenue from these legacy services is in
decline and this decline will continue.
Alternative service offerings such as public Internet access, IPSec, IP/MPLS,
and Ethernet services are expanding their features and coverage and
increasingly draw customers and revenue away from legacy services. But it
won' t happen overnight, and these services are expected to generate
substantial revenue over the next five years.
This report provides current market size of US business legacy data services
(i.e. frame relay, private, and ATM services), outlines dynamics associated
with the continued use of legacy data services, and provides 5-year revenue
projections by type of service.
