Abstract
Since the late ' 90s and early into the new century, the move in the chipset
market has been to integrate as much as is practical. Graphics processors have
not been immune to these market forces.
This report takes a snapshot of the PC chipset market and the evolution of the
chipset. Included in this report are market forecasts for units shipped and
revenue of chipsets, including regional breakouts. Notable changes in the
chipset market are:
- Performance initiatives focus on PCI Express and Hyper Transport
topologies to move graphics away from hi-latency, general-purpose, peripheral
busses.
- Notebooks not likely to see dual graphics processor implementations, owing
to form-factor and current consumption issues.
- Notebook graphics growth is expected to outpace desktop graphics growth,
with discrete graphics still playing a role in the desktop market.
- Emerging markets have highest growth rates for graphics.
