Abstract
This report covers the global digital terrestrial television (DTT) set top box
(STB) market. As digital launches occur, the delineations between standards
start to take shape: ATSC, DMB-T/H, DVB-T, and ISDB-T. While DVB-T represents
the largest share of STBs on the market, the analog shutoff (ASO) in the
United States will pose a windfall for ATSC STBs in 2008 and 2009 in the form
of converter boxes.
DTT launches and ASOs continue to drive the transition to digital across the
globe. In the report we explore the European, North American, Asia/Pacific,
and ROW (Latin America and MEA) regions- with country-specific analysis in the
larger markets. Five year forecasts, from 2006 to 2011, for both standard- and
high-definition (SD/HD) STBs are included with revenue. With a 30.6% unit CAGR
(2006 to 2011) the terrestrial STB market is poised for growth, in particular
as countries like Brazil and China launch services and Western European
countries strive to meet ASOs in the 2010 to 2012 time frame.
