The most serious clinical expression of osteoporosis is fracture. Other antiresorptive agents will significant potential be limited by high costs, safety concerns and inadequate commercial development plans.
The osteoporosis pipeline is top-heavy, with 50% of drug candidates in Phase III or higher. Investment is evident across therapeutic classes, particularly in improving peptide delivery methods, although anabolic therapies are dominated by early-Phase PTH drugs and comprise only one-fifth of total pipeline candidates.
