Highlights
Demand is increasing for a better range of features for the unified
communications aspect of voice/data convergence due to changing workforce
patterns and staff becoming more mobile. At the same time IP telephony
solutions continue to mature and vendors are now offering a variety of IP PBX
based solutions.
Adoption of voice/data convergence is increasing, albeit gradually, and
traditional telephony and TDM PBXs are slowly being phased out. Datamonitor' s
Technology Trends survey shows that 60% of the 1,000 enterprises interviewed
in 2007 have deployed some form of IP telephony, with 40% having an IP PBX in
place.
Although there has been much consolidation in the voice/data convergence
market, there is still room for innovation and non-traditional communications
vendors to play a part in any developments. Both IBM and Microsoft have
entered the market and are likely to pose a threat to the other vendors with
their unified communications solutions.

strengths with regards to their technology, user sentiment and market impact.
