Abstract
With the industry now dominated by three huge circuits, the emphasis is
shifting from consolidation to modest physical expansion in the UK. In
Ireland, by contrast, consolidation is just beginning. Expectations are for
another fairly flat year in 2008 but they are running high for 2009, when a
raft of 3D movies could, like Titanic and The Lord of the Rings before them,
lift cinema-going onto a new, higher plateau. New forecast models in the
report illustrate graphically the potential impact of the new technology.
This year' s report again includes supplementary databases in spreadsheet
format covering key industry metrics from admissions and box office through
tax rates to ancillary revenues from screen advertising and concession stand
sales, together with complete listings of all cinemas in both the United
Kingdom and Ireland.
Long accepted as the gold standard review of the British cinema business,
Cinemagoing is adding a reputation as an essential research toolkit for anyone
concerned with this rapidly developing industry.
Cinemagoing 17covers the cinema markets of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
