Abstract
Location based mobile services (LBS) are a natural application of mobile phones both for private
consumers as well as businesses. Location based services are already very developed in Japan, where
about 20% of all mobile phones have GPS installed, and all operators use location determined by
triangulation for commercial services.
The present reports give a broad overview of location based services in Japan both for consumer
markets as well as for commercial business-to-business markets (e.g. for fleet management,
enterprise resource management etc).
The report is directed to mobile operators, investment bankers, telecom equipment manufacturers,
semiconductor manufacturers, mobile services providers, and other professionals who need to be
up-to-date on the state of the art of location based mobile services and be aware of future trends
to expect.
Our market reports have been purchased by major global telecom operators and equipment
manufacturers from US, EU and Japan, and many other countries, investment bankers, equipment
manufacturers, service providers, the commercial sections of foreign Embassies in Tokyo, University
students and professors and many professionals from all over the world. The Government of Finland
has engaged us to advise on the research funding strategy for mobile services, and the Harvard
Business School (HBS) is using one of our reports for research and teaching.
