Abstract
This Energy Insights report provides a look at the current situation in
prepayment metering for energy companies in the United States, with specific
case examples. Recommendations for utilities that are considering prepayment
systems are included, with the associated challenges they will need to
consider.
According to Karen Blackmore, program director for Retail Strategies within
Energy Insights, "Distribution and retail energy providers should seriously
consider adding prepayment metering to their customer options for energy usage.
It can give them practical experience in smart metering concepts and allow them
to increase customer satisfaction by providing additional payment channels for
their customers, as well as an effective means of reducing energy consumption."
