Abstract
This Energy Insights Perspective examines the Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission (FERC) report "Assessment of Demand Response and Advanced Metering"
and its implications for energy providers and technology vendors. The Energy
Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005) instructed the FERC to assess the status and
penetration of demand response (DR), including its potential as a resource for
regional planning and transmission planning. FERC also was required to examine
the saturation and penetration of advanced meters, advanced communications
technologies, and demand response and time-based rate programs.
