Abstract
This study provides an overview of the utility industry in Central Europe as
well as details of the structure of the utility markets in the Czech Republic,
Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. The study includes the results of an IDC survey
of utility companies in Central Europe, which explores the allocation of
utility companies' budgets as well as companies' current and planned future IT
initiatives and investments. The study also quantifies anticipated
utility-sector IT spending in Central Europe over the 2006-2010 forecast period.
"The Central European utility sector presents significant opportunities for IT
vendors. Utility companies in the region are undergoing major changes and are
increasingly relying on IT as an operational tool and to comply with regulatory
changes. Vendors can capitalize on companies' increased utilization of IT by
understanding the unique challenges faced by utilities in the CE region as well
as challenges common to utility companies everywhere." Scott Moore, Consultant,
