Abstract
This Energy Insights report considers how installation of automated meter
reading (AMR) and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems is affecting
utility load research departments. Load researchers, eager to gain additional
interval load data, have anxiously awaited the arrival of these systems, which
promise to provide more and better customer information. Energy Insights spoke
with several utility load researchers to discover how their companies are
accessing and using the greater volume of information these systems collect.
According to Craig Williamson, program director at Energy Insights, "When it
comes to achieving the benefits of AMI for load researchers, particularly the
promise of widespread access to interval load data, ' We aren' t there yet.'
However, we do expect significant progress over the next few years, and load
researchers can take specific steps to smooth the way and ensure that load
research department needs are considered during technology selection."
